I am a big fan of yarnbombing (or yarn graffiti) and I decided to wrap in yarn trees in my backyard. And this is my second post about my backyard yarnbombing.

The previous post was about my first yarnbombed object – Ladybug Tree.  Now it is a beautiful color wrapped tree with ladybugs on it!

On my Pinterest profile, I have a board dedicated to yarm bombing, yarn graffiti with many beautiful images of yarn installations around the world. If you want to follow this board, you can do it HERE.

We have a small but beautiful backyard with a fountain, patio, cute shed, maple trees, shade garden, and vegetable garden. This time my object for yarn graffiti is another Japanese maple tree in our backyard.

Here is how this tree looked before my yarn installation:

As it is now almost Halloween and my son is a big Halloween fan, I decided to transform it into a Spider Tree!

For the tree wrapping, I used yellow, light green and dark green color yarns.

It was also very important to me that my yarn installation would be easy to remove. We live in an area where the rain season lasts from October through May, so I wanted to be able to remove easily my yarn installation during the rainy season.

I’ve crocheted long and narrow stripes for the trunk and branches. I took the longest piece and wrapped it around the tree trunk and then kept wrapping around one of the branches.

Then I joined another piece with a safety pin (or pins) and wrapped around the next branch and so on.

Then I made Spiders using my free crochet pattern for heart-shaped Spider applique and attached Spiders to the yarn wrapping.

For my crochet graffiti, I used Red Heart acrylic yarns. Such yarns are colorful, light and easy to dry in case of rain.

Avoid wool or cotton as they get very heavy when wet and take a long time to dry.

I hope you enjoyed my backyard yarn bombing idea – Spider Tree!
