If you are a gnome fan, make this crochet Patriotic Gnome as a beautiful handmade decoration for the 4th of July! You can use it as an ornament or as an applique for various patriotic embellishments.
My crochet Patriotic Gnome design is based on my original pattern for the Christmas gnome. The cap design is modified so that one half of the cap is a solid blue, other half is striped in red and white.

This gnome design (as well as my previously designed gnomes) is based on heart elements – the gnome’s cap, beard, and body are made from heart shapes.
Here are my other heart gnomes: Christmas gnome, Valentine’s Day gnome, St. Patrick’s Day gnome, Easter gnome, Graduation gnome, and Lilac gnome.

Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC – single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
TR – treble crochet
Skill Level:
Intermediate.
Finished Size:
Gnome is about 5-3/4” tall (without a hanging loop).
Yarn:
- Medium weight #4 yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver). Colors: blue (Color A), red (Color B), white (Color C), beige (Color D)
Hooks and other materials:
- Crochet hook 7/4.5 mm
- Yarn needle
- Sewing needle
- Matching sewing threads
- Craft buttons – small white stars (about 6 mm in diameter). I like to buy buttons on Etsy. My favorite buttons can be found HERE.
Note:
How to change to a new color – work the Stitch with the first color, but do not complete the Stitch. You will have 2 loops (for SC, DC, and TR) or 3 loops (for HDC) remain on the hook. Drop first color and draw through the loops on the hook new color and complete the Stitch.
Instructions:
This Gnome ornament consists of a cap, beard, body, and nose that are crocheted separately and then sewn together.
