Materials:
For this project, you are welcome to use any yarn weight you like. For my samples, I used cotton crochet thread size 3 and a crochet hook 1/2.75 mm. You will also need black embroidery floss for the eye.
Finished Size:

To make this heart fish applique, you need to make a large heart for the body and a small heart for the tail, then sew the hearts together and embroider the eye.
Large Heart for the Body
Ch 4;
Rnd 1. make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, HDC + DC in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 St, Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point), Ch 1, HDC in Ch-1 St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, DC + HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in each of the next 6 Sts, SC into Ch-1 St, Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point), Ch 1, SC into Ch-1 St, SC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Small Heart for the Tail
Ch 3,
Rnd 1. make all of the next stitches into the third Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 HDC, 2 SC, Ch 1, HDC (Heart point), Ch 1, 2 SC, 3 HDC, Ch 2, Sl St in center.
Finishing:
Assemble the fish – sew a small heart between the large heart’s semicircles. With black embroidery floss, make 2-3 stitches for the eye. You can also use the bead instead.
