4th of July Crochet Heart Ornament Patterns

Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet

Finished size:
Design 1: about 2″ (5 cm) without hanging loop; designs 2 and 3: 1.5″ (3.8 cm) without hanging loop and tassel
Yarn:
- Medium weight #4 cotton yarn (UK yarn type – Aran), colors – red, white and blue. I used Dishie by Knit Picks medium weight #4 cotton yarn.
Hook and other materials:
- Crochet hook G/6 (4 mm)
- American flag charms
- Small star button
- Yarn needle

Note:
How to change to a new color: work the final stitch of the row with the first color, but do not complete the stitch. You will have 2 loops remain on the hook. Drop first color and draw through the loops on the hook new color and complete stitch.

Design 1

With blue, make magic ring,
Round 1. Ch 2, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 HDC, 2 SC, Ch 1, DC, Ch 1, 2 SC, 3 HDC, Ch 2 , Sl St. Fasten off blue. Tighten the magic ring, but do not close it completely.
Round 2. Draw white through the center, Ch 3, 2 SC in first St, 2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in Ch-1 sp, (SC, HDC, SC) in next St, SC in Ch-1 sp, SC in each of next 3, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off white.
Round 3. Draw red through the center, Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in each of next 5 Sts, (SC, HDC, SC) in next St, SC in each of next 5 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Finishing
Add a charm to your heart if you desire. Using two ends, make a hanging loop. Shape and block your heart as necessary.
Design 2

With red, make magic ring,
Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, DC – change to white;
continue working into the ring: DC, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St. Fasten off white.
Round 2. Draw blue through the center, Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in each of next 2 Sts, HDC in next, (DC, HDC) in next, SC in each of next 2 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Finishing
Add a charm to your heart if you desire. Using two ends, make a hanging loop. Shape and block your heart as necessary.
Design 3

With blue, Ch 9,
Round 1. Work under two loops: 3 TR in 5th Ch from hook, DC in next Ch, HDC in next Ch, SC in next Ch, Sl St in last Ch, drop blue color pick up white, draw it through the loop on your hook, work on opposite side of Chain (now you will be working under one loop): Sl St in next Ch, SC in next Ch – change to red, HDC in next Ch, DC in next Ch – change to white, work in last Ch: TR, TR – change to red, TR, Ch 4, Sl St in same last Ch. Fasten off. Total – 14 Sts.
Finishing
Use two ends to create a hanging loop. Sew a white star button onto the blue part. Use the remaining ends to make a tassel. Trim the tassel to about 2” (5 cm) in length.
Shape and block your heart as necessary.
