This crochet Stork applique is a wonderful small project to celebrate the arrival of a new baby! The body of this Stork applique is made in the shape of a heart and is very appropriate for those new arrivals to families and friends! This design continues my series of heart-shaped creations.

Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
TR – treble crochet
This Stork applique is about 5-1/2″ (13 cm) tall.
Patons Grace light weight #3 cotton yarn, fiesta (Color B)
Patons Grace light weight #3 cotton yarn, color of your choice (Color C)

To make this Stork applique, you need to crochet a heart-shaped body, legs, head with neck, small heart as a wing and baby bundle.
Body and Legs
With Color A, Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under two loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, HDC + DC in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 St, 2 DC in next St (heart point), HDC in Ch-1 St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, DC + HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in each of the next 7 Sts,
Leg 1 – Ch 5, SC in 2nd Ch and in each of next 3 Chs, Sl St in same St,
SC in next St,
Leg 2 – Ch 5, SC in 2nd Ch and in each of next 3 Chs, SC in same St,
SC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Lower part of the first leg: *Join Color B to the right St of the leg (see Picture 1), Ch 11, SC in 2nd Ch and in next Ch, 3 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 6 Chs, Sl St next to St where you joined (Picture 2). Fasten off*.
Repeat from * to * for the second leg.
With Color A, Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under two loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Head and Neck
With Color A, Ch 16,
Row 1. HDC in 3rd Ch and in each of next 10, 2 HDC in each of next 2 Chs, working under two loops – (7 DC +HDC+Sl St) in next (last) Ch. Fasten off.
Join Color B to 4th St of the Head counting from the last Sl St made.
Ch 7, Sl St in 2nd Ch and in next Ch, SC in each of next 3 Chs, Sl St in next St of the Head. Fasten off.
With Color C, Ch 9,
Rnd 1. Sl St in 2nd Ch and in next Ch, SC in each of next 2, HDC in next, DC in each of next 2, working under two loops – 8 DC in last, continue on the opposite side of the Chain: DC in each of next 2, HDC in next, SC in each of next 2, Sl St in each of next 2; * Ch 4, Sl St in 2nd Ch, SC in next, Sl St in next, Sl St in same St where Ch 4 was started*, repeat from * to * one more time. Fasten off.
Sew all pieces together, embroider the eye. Block your applique as necessary.
