Fishbone Crochet Applique

This Fishbone (or Fish Skeleton) crochet applique will make a fun embellishment for your kid’s items like hats, bags, t-shirts, or blankets. It is also a great way to embellish items for fishermen or others who love the outdoors.

You can also use this applique for a handmade greeting card, make a garland, or make a fishbone ornament.

Abbreviations:

Ch – chain

DC – double crochet

HDC – half double crochet

Rnd – round

SC – single crochet

Sl St – slip stitch

St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)

TR – treble crochet

Finished Size:

I have made my fishbone applique in two sizes. Large fishbone is about 4” long, small is about 2-3/4” long.

Yarn:

• Crochet cotton thread size #3. I used Knit Picks Curio cotton thread #3.

Hook and other materials:

• Crochet hook C-2.75 mm
• Sticky back googly eyes
• Tapestry needle to weave in ends

Continue working on Spine and Bones:

Ch 10, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in each of next 5;

Ch 11, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in each of next 6;

Ch 12, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in each of next 7;

Ch 10, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in each of next 5;

Tail: Ch 11, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in next; SC in each of next 2, HDC in next, HDC2tog; Ch 7, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in next, SC in each of next 2, HDC in next, 2 HDC in next; Sl St in each of next 3 Chs of the spine.
