This crochet mini pillow is made from two crocheted panels joined together. The front panel is embellished with crochet applique holly leaves, red beads for berries, and decorative small holly berry buttons.

Yarn:
For the pillow – Knit Picks Dishie medium weight #4 cotton yarn. Colors: White (A) and Fiesta Red (B)
For the applique – Aunt Lydia’s crochet cotton size #10, color – Myrtle Green (C)
Hook and other materials:
- Crochet hook G/4 mm
- Crochet hook 6/1.8 mm
- Red beads – 6
- Holly berry craft buttons – 3
- Yarn needle
- Poly-fil stuffing
Notes:
- How to change to a new color – work the final Stitch with the first color, but do not complete the Stitch. You will have 2 loops remain on the hook. Drop first color and draw through the loops on the hook new color and complete the Stitch.

The pillow consists of two panels that are joined together.
Front panel
With medium weight #4 cotton yarn Color A and crochet hook G/4 mm, Ch 17;

Row 1. SC in 2nd Ch from hook and in each Ch to the end. Total – 16 SC. Turn.
Row 2 – 3. Ch 1, SC in each St across. Turn.
Row 4. Ch 1, SC in each St across. Change to Color B (see Note 1). Do not cut off Color A. Turn.
Row 5. Carry Color A – lay it on top of the previous row and work over it. Ch 1, SC in each St across. Change to Color A (see Note 1). Cut off Color B. Turn.
Row 6 – 18. Ch 1, SC in each St across. Turn.
Row 19. Ch 1, SC in each St across. Fasten off.
Back Panel
With medium weight #4 cotton yarn Color B and crochet hook G/4 mm, Ch 17;
Row 1. SC in 2nd Ch from hook and in each Ch to the end. Total – 16 SC. Turn.

We will assemble the pillow later on as it is easier to embellish it BEFORE the two parts are joined together.
Crochet Holly Leaf Applique – make 3
With crochet cotton thread size #10 Color C and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm, Ch 9 (this is a foundation chain);
Rnd 1. SC into 2nd Ch from the hook, HDC into next Ch, DC in next Ch, 2 DC in next, DC in next, HDC into each of next 2 Chs, working under 2 loops – 5 SC into last Ch (top).
Working on opposite side of the Ch, HDC into each of next 2 Chs, DC in next Ch, 2 DC in next, DC in next, HDC into next Ch, 4 SC into last Ch. Side facing you is right side.
Rnd 2. SC in first St, SC in next St, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch from the hook, SC in same St, *SC in each of next 2 Sts, HDC in next, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch, HDC in same St* – 5 times,
SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch, SC in same St, SC in each of next 2 Sts, Sl St in next St,
make a Stem – Ch 5, Sl St into 2nd Ch from the hook and into each of next 3 Chs, Sl St into same St as Ch 5 started,
make center ridge – center ridge made in surface slip stitch technique.
After you make last Sl St, you have loop on your hook on the right side and working yarn on the wrong side.
Work along of the foundation chain with 1 St for each Ch. Insert your hook from the right side to the wrong side through the Ch of foundation chain, yarn over on the wrong side.
Draw the yarn over loop through to the right side. Pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made).
Keep repeating these steps to the end of foundation chain. Fasten off.
Finishing
- Sew holly leaves, red beads for the berries and three decorative buttons on the front panel of the pillow.
- Assemble the pillow – hold the back of the two parts together and with Color B, single crochet around all four sides, working 3 SC in each corner. Leave 2” open at the end, add small amount of stuffing (do not overstuff!) and single crochet to close.
