This crochet smiling face with heart eyes design is the first pattern in a series of six. My crochet faces have heart shapes instead of traditional round shapes, making them perfect for Valentine’s Day. You can use them for home decoration, as appliques, embellishments or as small Valentine’s Day presents.

Smiling Face with Heart Eyes Crochet Pattern

DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet

Finished Size:
The heart face is about 3-1/4″ (8 cm).
Yarn:
worsted medium weight yarn, color – yellow
cotton crochet thread size 10, color – red
cotton crochet thread size 10, color – black
Hooks:
crochet hook H/8-5.00 mm or I/9-5.50 mm

Make a Large Heart for the face.
Large Heart
With worsted medium weight yarn and crochet hook H/8-5.00 mm or I/9-5.50 mm, Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Working under both loops, make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, (HDC + DC) in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, DC into each of next 3 Sts, HDC into Ch 1, (DC+TR+DC) in next St (Heart point),
HDC into Ch 1, DC into each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, (DC + HDC) in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 5 Sts, SC in each of the next 6 Sts, (DC+TR+DC) in next St (Heart point),
SC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 5 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Eyes
With red cotton crochet thread size 10, and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, make two small or medium hearts for the Eyes. (I used medium hearts for my emoji.)

Smile
With black cotton crochet thread size 10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 14;
Row 1. Working under 2 loops – Sl St into 2nd Ch, SC into each of next 2 Chs, HDC into next St, 2 HDC into next St, DC into next Ch, 2 DC into next Ch, DC into next Ch, 2 HDC into next St, HDC into next St, SC into each of next 2 Chs, Sl St into last Ch, Ch 2.
Row 2. Continue working on the opposite side of Chain – SC into each St across, Sl St into side of the first St of previous Row.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Finishing
Sew Eyes and Smile onto the Face. Block your applique as necessary.
