These crochet Wordle coasters will make a great gift for any occasion for those who love this fun word game! My family is really enjoying this popular game and I couldn’t resist to recreate the final board using yarn and a crochet hook.

If you are not familiar with Wordle, it is a daily game published on The New York Times website. You will have to guess a five-letter word in six attempts.
If the letter is guessed correctly and it is in the correct place, it will be on a green tile, if the letter is correct, but in the wrong place, it will be on a yellow tile, and if the letter is not in the word, it will be on a gray tile.
I hope you will enjoy my crochet Wordle coaster pattern and will make them for yourself or for the Wordle lover in your life!

Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
RS – right side
SC – single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
WS – wrong side
Skill Level:
Intermediate (must know tapestry crochet and surface slip stitch technique).
Finished Size:
These crochet coasters are about 4-1/2” x 4-1/2”.
Yarn:
Medium weight #4 cotton yarn. I used Sugar’n Cream cotton yarn. Color A – hot green, Color B – yellow, Color C – overcast, Color D – white
Hook and other materials:
- Crochet hook US size 7 (4.5 mm)
- Crochet hook US size E/4 (3.5 mm)
- Stitch marker
Notes:
- SC throughout entire piece.
- Turning Ch 1 at the end of the row does not count as a stitch.
- How to change to a new color: work the final Stitch with the first color, but do not complete the Stitch. You will have 2 loops remain on the hook. Drop first color and draw through the loops on the hook new color and complete the Stitch.
- This pattern uses tapestry crochet technique – working over the color not in use. To carry the unused color, lay it on top of the previous row and work over it. When working on the right side, hold unused color behind your work; when working on the wrong side, hold unused color in front of your work. This will prevent unused color from being visible on the right side.
- Use stitch marker to mark right side.
Instructions:
I created two Wordle coaster designs.

White stripes dividing squares are made with surface slip stitch technique using crochet hook E/4 (3.5mm).
Each square is 4 stitches wide and 3 rows tall. Stripes are placed between stitches and rows. Vertical stripes are placed after every 4th stitch and horizontal stripes are placed after every 3rd row.
How to Make Surface Slip Stitches
Insert your hook through your work where you start the stripe from the right side to the wrong side, yarn over on the wrong side, and draw the yarn through to the right side. You have loop on your hook on the right side and working yarn on the wrong side.
Insert your hook from the right side to the wrong side through the next stitch (or next row), yarn over on the wrong side.
Draw the yarn over loop through to the right side. Pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made). Keep repeating these steps to the end.
Edging
Use crochet hook 7 (4.5 mm). With RS facing you, join Color D to any corner,
Ch 1, single crochet around all four sides, working SC in each row-end St and 3 SC in each corner, join with Sl St to first SC. Fasten off.

Hi! I love these but I’m really having trouble with the size. I’m using the same yarn as the patterns, and I’ve gone down two full hook sizes but it’s still coming out at 5 inches – which makes it look more like a trivet instead of a coaster. Any idea where I’m going wrong??? TIA
GoldenLucyCrafts says
I am not sure why your coaster turned our so big. Are you crocheting too loose? Is the number of stitches correct?
