This Easter egg crochet ornament will make a cute Spring home décor, and it will look great anywhere in your home – in the kitchen, your craft room, or kids’ room. More ideas for crochet for the home can be found HERE.
I made this Easter egg as a wall decoration. You can also use it as a single large applique, or crochet bunch of them and make a garland. If you like, you can omit the flowers and buttons and use it as a coaster.

- Aunt Lydia’s crochet cotton thread size 10, burgundy red (Color A)

Special Stitches:
The extended double crochet stitch is a taller variation of standard double crochet.
- Yarn over. Insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the stitch. There are now 3 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and draw the yarn through the first loop on the hook. There are now 3 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and draw the yarn through 2 loops on the hook. There are now 2 loops on the hook.
- Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 remaining loops on the hook.

To make this Easter egg ornament, you need to crochet the flat egg shape and embellish it with crocheted flowers and buttons.
Egg
With medium weight #4 cotton yarn and crochet hook H/8 – 5 mm, make magic ring,
Rnd 1. Ch 3 (counts as DC), 11 DC in ring. Draw the loop closed. To make it easier to do, first untwist the tail, then pull the tail to draw the loop tightly closed. Join with Sl St into top of Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd. Total – 12 DC.
Rnd 2. Ch 3 (counts as DC), DC in same place, 2 DC in each St around, join with Sl St in top of the Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd. Total – 24 DC.
Rnd 3. Ch 4 (counts as TR), 2 TR in next St, TR in next St, TR+EDC in next St, *2 DC in next St, DC in next St* – repeat 4 times, EDC+TR+EDC in next St (top of the egg), **DC in next St, 2 DC in next St** – repeat 4 times, EDC+TR in next St, TR in next St, 2 TR in next St, join with Sl St in top of Ch 4. Total – 38 Sts.
Rnd 4. Ch 1, 2 SC in same St, *SC in each of next 2 Sts, 2 SC in next St* – repeat 4 times, SC into each of next 5 Sts, 3 SC in next St of the head, SC in each of next 5 Sts, **2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 2 Sts** – repeat 4 times, 2 SC in next St, join with Sl St to first SC. Total – 49 Sts.
Rnd 5. Ch 1, *Sl St in next St, Ch 1 – repeat from * around, join with Sl St to Ch 1 at the beginning. Fasten off.
Flower – make four
With Color A and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm, Ch 5, join to form a ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 1, 10 SC into ring, join with Sl St into first SC, cut off Color A. Fasten off.
Rnd 2. Join Color B to first St of Rnd 1, *Ch 4, 3 TR in same St, Ch 4, Sl St in same St, skip next St, Sl St in next St*, repeat from * to * 4 more times, last Sl St make in same St where you joined Color B. Total – 5 petals. Fasten off.
Finishing
Make a hanging loop. With a sewing needle and matching sewing threads, sew on flowers and buttons on the egg.
