This crochet chain scarf (or necklace) is another road trip project, which I made during one of our trips while my husband was driving. This scarf is very easy to make and it would be a perfect project for beginners. You only need to know how to do chain and single crochet. This crochet chain scarf could be worn in a couple of different ways and you can embellish it with a large button, pin, crochet flower etc.

Ch – chain
SC – single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
Materials: for this crochet chain scarf you will need worsted, medium weight yarn – 2 strands (I was using Red Heart Soft, color – Rose Blush) and crochet hook I/9 – 5.5 mm or J/10 – 6mm. As you need to work with 2 strands of yarn, you need to have either 2 skeins of yarn, or divide your skein into two balls. For this scarf 1 skein is enough.
For the little wrap – you will need worsted, medium weight yarn – 1 strand and crochet hook G/6 – 4.25 mm
Optional: a large wooden button, little stars buttons or buttons of your choice.
Chain until you reach desired size of your scarf. While I was making my chain, I was wrapping it around my neck to see how long it needs to be. Depending on what you want, you can make it longer or shorter, with more or less chain loops. The more individual loops your scarf has, the thicker it will be. My scarf has 9 loops.
After you have made the chain for your scarf long enough, form your scarf, make sure that ends meet together and make Sl St into the very first chain of the scarf.
Cut the end, leaving a 10”-12” inches tail. Using this tail, wrap it tightly around all loops 7-8 times. Make a knot to secure.
Then using yarn needle, secure and weave in all end.
If you wish, now you can wear your scarf as a necklace as is.
Or, you can embellish it with Cherry Flower.
Pattern for this flower is HERE.
Also you can make a little wrap and embellish it with large button, crochet appliqué, pin or another embellishment of your choice.
To make such wrap, use 1 strand of yarn and crochet hook G/6 – 4.25 mm.
Row 1. working into back rib of the chain, SC into 2-nd Ch from the hook and into each St to the end of the Row. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 2-8. SC into each St to the end of the Row. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 9. SC into each St to the end of the Row.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Wrap this piece around the scarf, using sewing needle and matching thread, sew it from the back, then make couple of stitches through the scarf to secure wrap more and prevent from sliding.
Now is the fun part – embellish your crochet chain scarf!
I decided to embellish my scarf with an Irish Rose, the pattern could be found HERE.
