This crochet Gingerbread Gnome is made using my original pattern for the Heart Gnome Christmas Ornament that I designed earlier. All parts of my gnome (hat, beard, and body) are made from heart-shaped elements.

I love gingerbread-colored Christmas décor and my heart gnome ornament is perfect to make in the gingerbread color.
Besides ornaments, you can use these gnomes as appliques, present toppers, or wall décor. You can also crochet a bunch of them and make a cute Gingerbread Gnome Christmas garland.

This crochet gingerbread gnome ornament is about 5” tall (without a hanging loop).
Yarn:
Red Heart Soft, medium weight #4 yarn, color – Toast
Red Heart Soft, medium weight #4 yarn, color – White
Crochet cotton #3, color beige for the Nose
Hook and other materials:
US size h/8 (5 mm) crochet hook
Crochet hook 1/2.75 mm

Instructions:
To make this crochet gingerbread gnome, you will need to crochet a cap, beard, body, and nose and then sew them together.
Beard
With crochet hook H-8/5 mm and Color White, make magic ring,
Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC, Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring.
Round 2. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in Ch-1 sp, Ch 1, DC in next St, Ch 1, SC in Ch-1 sp, SC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Cap
With crochet hook H-8/5 mm and Color Toast, Ch 15;
Round 1. Working under 2 loops: 3 TR in fifth Ch from hook, DC in each of next 2 Chs, HDC in each of next 2, SC in each of next 6, Ch 2, continue working on opposite side of Chain: Sl St in each of next 3, SC in each of next 3, HDC in each of next 2, DC in each of next 2, 3 TR in last, Ch 4, Sl St in same last. Fasten off.
Body
With crochet hook H-8/5 mm and Color Toast, make magic ring,
Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC, Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring.
Round 2. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in each of next 2 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 sp, Ch 1, DC in next St, Ch 1, HDC in Ch-1 sp, HDC in each of next 2 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Right foot
Use crochet hook H-8/5 mm. Join White Color to 2nd St of Round 2 of the Body,
Ch 1, 2 HDC in same St, Ch 1, Sl St in same St. Fasten off.
Left Foot
Use crochet hook H-8/5 mm. Join White Color to last St of Round 2 of the Body,
Ch 1, 2 HDC in same St, Ch 1, Sl St in same St. Fasten off.
Nose
With crochet hook 1/2.75 mm and cotton thread size 3 in beige, make magic ring,
Round 1. Ch 2, 9 HDC in ring, join with Sl St to top of Ch 2. Fasten off.
Finishing
Using a sewing needle and matching thread, sew the body, beard, cap, and nose together. Embellish the cap with snowflake buttons or beads. Attach hanging loop. Block as necessary.
