This crochet cap can be a lovely handmade gift and also used for various decorative purposes. I used this cap for my graduation snow globe.

Instructions:
This crochet graduation cap consists of a base, a top part, and a tassel.
Base
With black color, make magic ring;
Rnd 1. Ch 1, 6 SC in magic ring.
Rnd 2. 2 SC in each St around. Total – 12 SC.
Rnd 3. [2 SC in first St, SC in next St] 6 times. Total – 18 SC.
Rnd 4. SC in first, [2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 2 Sts] 5 times, 2 SC in next St, SC in next St. Total – 24 Sts.
Rnd 5. [2 SC in first St, SC in each of next 3 Sts] 6 times. Total – 30 Sts.
Rnd 6. SC in first St and in next St, [2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 4 Sts] 5 times, 2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 2 Sts. Total – 36 Sts.
Rnd 7. [2 SC in first St, SC in each of next 5 Sts] 6 times. Total – 42 Sts.
Rnd 8. SC in first St and in each of next 2 Sts, [2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 6 Sts] 5 times, 2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 3 Sts. Total – 48 Sts.
Rnd 9. BLO: SC in each St around. Total – 48 Sts.
Rnd 10 – 14. SC in each St around. Total – 48 Sts.
Rnd 15. Sl St in each of next 2 Sts. Fasten off.
Top part
With black color, make magic ring;
Rnd 1. Ch 5 (counts as first DC and 2-Ch space, now and throughout), [3 DC in ring, Ch 2] 3 times, 2 DC in ring, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5 in the beginning. Total – 12 DC.
Rnd 2. Sl St in next Ch, Ch 5, 2 DC in Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 3 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in next Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 3 Sts] 3 times, DC in space before Ch 5, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5. Total – 28 DC and 4 Ch-2 spaces.
Rnd 3. Sl St in next Ch, Ch 5, 2 DC in Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 7 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in next Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 7 Sts] 3 times, DC in space before Ch 5, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5. Total – 44 DC and 4 Ch-2 spaces.
Rnd 4. Sl St in next Ch, Ch 4 (counts as first DC and 1-Ch space), 2 DC in Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 11 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 1, 2 DC) in next Ch-2 space, DC in each of next 11 Sts] 3 times, DC in space before Ch 4, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 4. Total – 60 DC and 4 Ch-2 spaces. Fasten off.
Tassel
- Wrap yellow color yarn around 2 ½” x 2 ½” piece of cardboard approximately 15-20 times.
- Thread a large needle with 15” of yarn under wrapped yarn in center, then tie tightly.
- Flip cardboard over, cut wrapped yarn through center.
- To make the tassel top, cut a 10” piece of yarn and wrap it tightly around the tassel twice, about 3/4” down from the top. Tie a knot and hide the ends inside the tassel.
- Weave in one end from the top, save the second end.
- Trim tassel ends evenly.
Assembly
Sew the tassel to the center of the top part. Sew top part on top of the base.
