This crochet graduation cap applique pattern will let you make a unique card to congratulate the graduate in your life whether it’s kindergarten graduation, high school, college or even receiving a Ph.D.!
By the way, did you know that those graduation caps are called “mortarboards” because they represent a tool used by bricklayers to hold mortar?

The card has a classic black graduation cap with a yellow tassel and a note saying “Con-grad-ulations!”
You can also use a different color for the cap, customize the text and add fun stickers if you wish.
To make this handmade graduation card you can use card stock or a store-bought blank card. If you are planning to use card stock, you will also need a paper trimmer.
The messaging on the cards can be printed using your computer or hand-written.
I usually type messages in a Word document, then print them and cut them out with decorative-edged scissors that I have at home.
If you have beautiful handwriting – write the messages by hand for the added personal touch.

Hi,
How do we attach the hat to the card?
GoldenLucyCrafts says
I used a hot glue gun.
Glenda says
I love this but I don’t use the thread, only yarn. Can it be made with yarn instead & size g hook? Thanks.
GoldenLucyCrafts says
Yes, you can use yarn for this applique. I made a graduation garland using this pattern with medium weight #4 yarn. Here is the link: https://www.goldenlucycrafts.com/crochet-graduation-garland/
