Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC – single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
Materials:
I made my flowers using crochet cotton threads. For your project, you can use any yarn and a matching hook.
- cotton crochet thread size 10
- crochet hook size 4/2 mm
- sewing needle
- matching sewing threads

Finished Size:
This crochet heart flower is about 2” in diameter and 4-1/2” tall.
Instructions:
To make this heart flower, you will need 5 or 6 medium heart shapes for the petals and 1 or 2 small heart shapes for the leaves. You will also need to make a flower center and a stem.

Petal – make 5 (6)
Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Working under two loops (or strands), make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in Ch 1, Ch 1, DC into next St (Heart point), Ch 1, SC in Ch 1, SC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off and weave in the ends. If you have a small hole in the center, close it while fastening off the beginning end.
Leaf – make 1 (2)
Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Working under two loops (or strands), make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point) , Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Flower Center
You can make the flower center in the shape of either a circle or a heart.
Heart Center
Follow the instructions for the petal.
Round center
Make magic ring;
Rnd 1. Ch 2 (doesn’t counts as a St), 12 HDC into the ring, join with Sl St to first HDC. Total – 12 HDC.
Rnd 2. Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a St), HDC into the same place as Ch 2,* HDC into next St, 2 HDC into next St*, repeat from * to * around, join with Sl St. Total – 18 HDC. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Stem
Ch 33 (you can make it shorter or longer as you desire);
Row 1. Sl St into 2nd Ch from the hook and into each next Ch to the end.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Finishing
Sew hearts together from the back side to form the shape of a flower.
Sew the leaves to the stem and the stem to the flower. Block applique as necessary.
