This crochet poinsettia heart ornament is about 4.5” (11 cm) without a hanging loop

Yarn:

For the heart:

• Medium weight #4 yarn, two strands held together, color – white
• Medium weight #4 yarn, one strand, color – red

For the poinsettia:

• Medium weight #4 yarn, one strand, color – red, yellow, green

Hooks and other materials:

• Crochet hook size J-10/6 mm
• Crochet hook size 7/4.5 mm
• Sewing needle
• Sewing thread
• Yarn needle
• Poinsettia flower decorative button
• Small yellow beads – 3

Instructions:

To make this ornament, we will need to crochet a heart for the base, poinsettia flower and three leaves.  Then, we will sew the flower and leaves onto the heart and embellish the heart with decorative button.

Heart – base

With two strands of medium weight #4 yarn held together in white and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm, make magic ring;

Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring.

Round 2.  Ch 3, (HDC, DC) in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in Ch-1, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, (DC, HDC) in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Round 3. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Fasten off. Secure the magic ring and weave in the ends.

Round 4 – decorative edge. Use one strand of medium weight #4 yarn in red color and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm. Join yarn into last Sl St of previous Rnd, leaving the tail about 7-8” long; Ch 1, Sl St in 2^nd Ch of Ch 3 at the beginning of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, *Ch 1, Sl St in next St, repeat from * around to Ch 3 at the end of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in 1^st Ch, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, Ch 1, Sl St into same place as you join. Cut off the yarn leaving 7-8” tail.  Fasten off.

Poinsettia

With crochet hook 7/4.5 mm and yellow color, make a magic ring;

Round 1. Ch 1, 5 SC in the ring, join with Sl St to first SC. Total – 5 SC. Fasten off.

Round 2. Join red color to first St of Round 1, [Ch 3, DC in same St, Ch 2, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook, EDC in same St as last DC, Ch 3, Sl St in same St, Sl St in next St] 5 times, last repeat – make last Sl St in same St as join. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Green Leaf – make 3

With crochet hook 7/4.5 mm and green color, Ch 7,

Row 1. Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook, SC in next Ch, DC in each of next 2 Chs, HDC in next Ch, SC in last Ch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Finishing

Sew three yellow beads into the center of the poinsettia.
Using a sewing needle and matching thread, sew the leaves and the poinsettia onto the heart base.
Sew the poinsettia button onto the heart.
Make a hanging loop by using two red yarn ends.
