For the Shamrock bookmark you will need to make 3 hearts. For the Lucky Clover bookmark, you will need 4 hearts. One of the hearts will have a stem.
Heart
With crochet hook 1/2.75 mm, Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
If you have a small hole in the heart center, close it while fastening off the beginning end.
Stem
Join with a Sl St (see Note) in heart point, Ch 60-70 (or as you desire). Cut the yarn, leaving the tail about 2” long. Yarn over, draw the tail through the loop on the hook.
Assembling
Position the heart with a stem in the middle and sew the hearts together from the back. Sew together the points of the hearts and sew the edges where the hearts touch each other.
Make Tassel
Make the tassel in the same way as you would make fringe for a scarf. Do not make it bulky. Cut 2 pieces of yarn approximately 4” long. Insert crochet hook F-3.75 mm through the last chain.
Grab the middle of the yarn strands with the hook and bring it through the chain, then grab the entire bunch of free ends (including ending tail), draw them through the loop and tighten. Trim tassel ends evenly.
Finishing
Block bookmark as necessary. If your decorative button has shank, cut the shank off. Attach a flat button by sewing it on, or glue a button with its shank removed.
I hope you enjoyed this St.Patrick’s Day bookmarks free crochet pattern!
Happy Crocheting!
