Crochet Heart Sheep Applique

This cute crochet Sheep applique is another addition to my series of heart-shaped designs.  The body and the head of this crochet Sheep applique are made in the shape of a heart that makes it perfect for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Birthdays, or Mother’s Day.

This crochet Sheep applique is easy to make and would be perfect for any embellishment, scrapbooking, or card making!

Finished Size:

Large crochet Sheep applique is about 4-1/2” (11 cm) tall including legs, crochet Lamb applique is about 2-3/4″ (7 cm) including legs.

Materials:

Sheep

• worsted medium-weight yarn, colors – white and black
• crochet hook H/8-5.00 mm
• small white buttons

Lamb

• light weight cotton yarn Patons Grace, colors – white and black
• crochet hook 2.75 mm

Body

 Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1,  DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Rnd 2.  Ch 3, in top of first St of previous Row make HDC and DC, 3 DC in next St, 2 DC in next St, DC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch 1, Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point), Ch 1, HDC in Ch 1, DC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 DC in next St, DC and HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Rnd 3. Ch 3, HDC in top of first St of previous round, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 5 Sts, skip Ch 1, 3 HDC in next St (Heart point), skip Ch 1, HDC in each of the next 5 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Rnd 4. Ch 3, Sl St in top of first St of prev Rnd, *Ch 2, Sl St in next St* – around until last St, Sl St in last St, Sl St in first Ch of Ch 3 at the end of last Rnd. Fasten off. If you have a small hole in the center, close it while fastening off the beginning end.

Head

Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make the next stitches into the 4th Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 2 DC,

First Ear – Ch 6, Sl St in 2^nd Ch, SC in next Ch, HDC2tog, SC in last Ch, Sl St in top of last DC,

continue working in 4th Ch – DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1,  DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 2 DC,

Second Ear – Ch 5, Sl St in 2nd Ch, SC in next Ch, 2 HDC in next Ch, SC in next Ch, Sl St in top of last DC,

continue working in 4th Ch – DC, Ch 3, Sl St.

Fasten off. If you have a small hole in the center, close it while fastening off the beginning end.

Legs

Ch 23,

Row 1. Sl St in 2nd Ch, HDC2tog – twice, SC in each of next 5 Chs, 2 SC in each of next 2 Chs, SC in each of next 5 Chs, HDC2tog – twice, Sl St in last Ch. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Sew Head and Legs on the Sheep’s body

Sew on buttons for the eyes or you can embroider them.

Embellish your crochet Sheep applique with a small Bow.
