Crochet Patriotic Heart Keychain or Bag Charm

Patriotic Heart Keychain Crochet Pattern

Abbreviations:

Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC – single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
sp – space
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)

Skill level:

Finished size:

The heart is about 2″ (5 cm)

Yarn:

• Medium weight #4 cotton yarn (UK yarn type – Aran), colors – red, white and blue. I used  Dishie by Knit Picks medium weight #4 cotton yarn

Hooks and other materials:

• Crochet hook E/4 (3.5 mm)
• American flag charms
• Keyring with chain and open jump ring
• Flat-nose pliers
• Yarn needle

Note:

I recommend crocheting tightly.

Instructions

With red (or blue) color, make magic ring,

Round 1. Ch 2, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 HDC, 2 SC, Ch 1, DC, Ch 1, 2 SC, 3 HDC, Ch 2, Sl St. Fasten off. Tighten the magic ring, but do not close it completely.

Round 2. Draw white color through the center, Ch 3, 2 SC in first St, 2 SC in next St, SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in Ch-1 sp, (SC, HDC, SC) in next St, SC in Ch-1 sp, SC in each of next 3, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.

Round 3. Draw blue (or red) color through the center, Ch 3, Sl St in first St, [Ch 1, Sl St in next St] around to Ch 3 at the end, Ch 1, Sl St in first Ch of Ch 3, Ch 3, Sl St in center.  Fasten off.

Finishing

Close and secure the magic ring. Weave in all ends. Shape and block your heart as necessary.

Assembling

1. My keychain ring set came with an open jump ring. If your jump ring is closed, you will need to open it with pliers first.

2. Slide the jump ring under the two strands of the Round 3.

3. Add charm and keyring with chain to jump ring.

4. Close the jump ring with the pliers.
