DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
RS – right side
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
TR – treble crochet
WS – wrong side
Crochet Snowman applique is about 4”(10 cm) tall.
Patons Grace cotton yarn, colors – white (Snow), red (Cardinal), Aqua(Aquafier)
Crochet cotton thread size #10, colors – brown, red
Crochet hook C/2.75 mm
Crochet hook 1.8 mm

With white cotton yarn and hook C/2.75 mm, make a magic ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 2 (counts as first HDC), 7 HDC in magic ring, Sl St to top of Ch 2 to join – total 8 HDC.
Rnd 2. Ch 2 (counts as first HDC), HDC in same place, 2 HDC in next St and in each St around, Sl St to top of Ch 2 to join – total 16 HDC.
With red cotton yarn and hook C/2.75 mm, Ch 4.
Rnd 1. Working under two strands, make all of the next Sts in 4th Ch from hook – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 2, SC, Sl St. Side facing you is RS. Do not fasten off – leave loop on RS and working yarn at the WS, do not cut it off.
Rnd 2. Join white color into last SC of Rnd 1, Ch 3, HDC in first St of previous Rnd, 2 HDC in next 2 Sts, HDC in next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 St, 3 HDC in next St (heart point), HDC in Ch-1 St, HDC in next 3 Sts, 2 HDC in next 2 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in top of last SC of previous Rnd.
Fasten off white color.
Rnd 3. This is a round of Sl Sts made around Rnd 1 and it is made with surface slip stitch technique. You have red yarn loop on the RS and working yarn on the WS. Insert hook into this loop, then insert your hook from the RS to the WS through the center of Ch 4 in the beginning of Rnd 1, yarn over on the WS, draw the yarn over loop through to the RS, pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made). Make next surface Sl St in first St of Rnd 1 and in each next St around. See the picture below, white dots show where to insert the hook.
With white cotton yarn and hook C/2.75 mm make a magic ring.
Rnds 1-2. Follow the Head Instructions for the Rnds 1-2.
Rnd 3. Ch 2 (counts as first HDC), HDC in same place, *HDC in next St, 2 HDC in next St, repeat from *around, Sl St to top of Ch 2 to join – total 24 Sts.
Rnd 4. Ch 2(counts as first HDC), HDC in same place, *HDC in next 2 Sts, 2 HDC in next St, repeat from *around, Sl St to top of Ch 2 to join – total 32 Sts.
Use brown crochet thread size 10 and hook 1.8 mm.
Right Arm: with RS facing you, join crochet thread into third St of the last Rnd of the Middle Part of Snowman. *Ch 14, Sl St in 2nd Ch and in next 3, Ch 4, Sl St in 2nd Ch and in next 2, Sl St in same Ch where Ch 4 started, Sl St in next 9 Chs, Sl St in same St where you joined brown thread. Fasten off.*
Left Arm: with RS facing you, join crochet thread into third St from the end of the last Rnd of the Middle Part of Snowman. Repeat from * to *.
With agua color cotton yarn and hook C/2.75 mm, Ch 7.
Row 1. HDC in 3rd Ch and in next 4. Turn.
Row 2. Ch 2, HDC in next 4. Turn.
Row 3. Ch 2, HDC in next 3.
Sew Head, Hat, Middle and Bottom parts of Snowman. Bend Snowman’s right arm and sew it on to his heart.
Embroider eyes, nose, and mouth.
Make a small red heart.
Shape and block your crochet Snowman if necessary.
