This Balloon applique crochet pattern is another addition to my series of Heart Shaped appliques, it is also part of Valentine’s Day applique collection.

DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch

The Heart is about 1” (2.5 cm), string you can make as long as you wish.

Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center. Side facing you is Right Side.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, SC into first St of previous Row, 2 SC into each of next 2 Sts, SC into each of next 3 Sts, SC into Ch-1 stitch, Ch 1, DC into next St (Heart point),
Ch 2, HDC into top of DC, Ch 2, Sl St into top of DC,
Ch 1, SC into Ch-1 stitch, SC into each of next 3 Sts, 2 SC into each of next 2 Sts, SC into next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
The String
Ch 25 (or make it as long as you would like), cut the yarn off leaving a 4-6 inches tail, draw tail through the loop and pull tight.
Thread this tail into the sewing needle, position the string from the Wrong Side of the heart and wrap the tail 2-3 times around.
Secure and weave in the end.
If you want, with a small piece of crochet thread you can make a tiny bow.
