DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
RS – right side
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
TR – treble crochet
WS – wrong side
Finished Size:
This crochet heart snail is about 2-1/4” (7 cm) long.
Yarn:
- Patons Grace light weight #3 cotton yarn (100% mercerized cotton; 136 yds/124 m per 1.7 oz/50 g skein), colors – A for the Shell and B – for the Body.
Hook and other materials:
- Crochet hook 1/2.75 mm
- Embroidery floss

Instructions:
The Shell
Make a Large Heart for the Shell (I used the pattern for the large heart from the Crochet Hearts in 3 Sizes).
With color A, Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in center. Side facing you is RS.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, HDC + DC in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC into each of next 3 Sts, HDC into Ch-1 stitch, Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point),
Ch 1, HDC into Ch-1 stitch, HDC into each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, DC + HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in each of the next 6 Sts, SC in Ch-1 stitch, Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point),
Ch 1, SC in Ch-1 stitch, SC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 4 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
The Body
Row 1. With Heart WS facing you, join color B to the Heart point.
Ch 1, SC in each of next 11 Sts, 2 SC in next 2 Sts, turn.
Row 2. Tentacles: *Ch 4, Sl St in 2nd Ch and in 2 next Chs*, repeat from * to * one more time for the second tentacle.
All of next Sts make in last SC of Row 1 – (DC, 2 TR, DC);
HDC in next St, SC in each of next 2 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in each of next 8 Sts, Ch 5, Sl St in 2nd Ch and in next Ch, SC in next Ch, skip next Ch, Sl St in Heart point St. Fasten off.
Finishing
Embroider the eye. Block your applique as necessary.
