This crochet dog headband is another accessory I made for our dog Lucy. Lucy is an adorable Golden Retriever and the inspiration for my website’s name.
From my other project I had remaining a crochet pink flower, so I decided to make this simple and quick headband.
In addition to flower embellishment, I made two small hearts to sew them on both sides of the flower. These hearts symbolize the love we share for each other.

This dog headband will make a beautiful photo prop, it also will make a wonderful gift for other pet lovers in your life!
This headband is easy to make and is an ideal project for beginners. It is also a wonderful stash buster project as it requires a very small amount of yarn.
Lucy is a large sized dog – about 62 pounds, so I sized the band to fit her. But this pattern can be easily adapted to any size.
This headband can also be worn 2 ways – as a headband or as a collar. If your dog doesn’t like to wear anything on his head, the headband can be worn around your dog’s neck as a decorative collar.

Dog Headband Crochet Pattern
Ch – chain
BLO – back loop only
DC – double crochet
Rnd – round
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
(for large size golden retriever, weight about 62 pounds):
Headband circumference – 17”
- Medium weight #4 yarn, colors – pink, purple.
- Crochet hook H/8 – 5 mm
- The number of Rows is given for a large sized dog. You can easily adapt this pattern to any size by making fewer or more Rows.
- Ch 1 in the beginning of the SC Rows doesn’t count as a stitch.
For this project, you will need to make a headband, flower and two hearts. Then sew flower and hearts on the headband.
With pink, Ch 4;
Row 1. SC in 2nd Ch from the hook and in each of next 2 Chs – total 3 SC. Turn.
Row 2. Work in BLO. Ch 1, SC in each St across – total 3 SC. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until you reach the desired size of your headband. (I made 46 rows.)
Join the ends, using one of the methods:
- Do not cut off yarn, working in BLO of last Row, join both ends together by slip stitching across – total 3 Sl Sts, or
- Cut off the yarn leaving about 10” tail and join two ends with a tapestry needle.
With purple color, Ch 5, join with Sl St to form a ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 1, 12 SC in ring, Sl St to first SC. Total – 12 SC. Fasten off.
Rnd 2. Join pink color to first St, *(Ch 3, 2 DC, Ch 3, Sl St) in same St, skip 1, Sl St in next; repeat from * around, make last Sl St into same St where you joined pink color. Total – 6 petals. Fasten off.
Heart – make 2
(see also Instructions for the Crochet Heart Applique)
With purple color, Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center. Fasten off.
Sew flower and hearts on the headband. Dress up your dog!
