My crochet fishing gnomes as well as all my other gnomes are made from heart shapes. For this fishing gnome, I used a previously designed pattern for Valentine’s Day gnome.
The pattern links can be found in the Pattern I Used section below. I’ve just added to the gnome fishing pole and embellished the gnome with fishing craft buttons.
Gnomes have become very popular items to crochet. As I love to design appliques from heart-shaped elements, my gnomes are made from hearts as well.

How to Make a Fishing Gnome

Finished Size:
This crochet Fishing Gnome is about 4.5” tall.
For this fishing gnome, you will need to crochet a gnome and a fishing pole. Then embellish your gnome with fishing-themed buttons.
Directions:
1. Make a gnome.
Materials:
Medium weight #4 cotton yarn (I used Knit Picks Dishie medium weight #4 cotton yarn)
Crochet hook US size 4.5 mm
Decorative buttons: I like to purchase my buttons on Etsy. Here are the buttons I used: Fishing Buttons Collection
You will also need a sewing needle, matching sewing threads, a hot glue gun, and a craft cutter to remove the shanks.

2. Make a fishing pole.
Fishing Pole
Materials:
Crochet cotton thread size #3 (I used Knit Picks Curio cotton thread #3)
Crochet thread size #10
Crochet hook US size 1/2.75 mm
Instructions:
Ch 25, Sl St in 2nd Ch from hook and in each of next 18 Chs, Ch 1, HDC in each of next 5 Chs. Fasten off.
Attach to the top of the fishing pole a piece of crochet thread #10 about 2.5” long for the line. Using a glue gun, glue a fish button to the end of the line.
3. Sew the fishing pole to the gnome’s hand.
Embellish your fishing gnome with buttons. You can use buttons of your choice and embellish your gnome in your way.
If your buttons have shanks, you will need to cut the shanks off. Use a hot glue gun to attach the buttons.
