This Iris applique crochet pattern was inspired by a visit to an amazing Iris garden located in Oregon where we live. The flower is beautiful but very complex and it was very tricky to recreate it in a two-dimensional shape as an applique. But I love the result and hope you will like it too!

My family lives in a unique location surrounded by beautiful flower fields and gardens. We can visit fields of Tulips and Lilacs, Iris and Peony gardens in the spring, then beautiful Rose gardens, Lavender, and finally Dahlia fields in the late summer.
All these beautiful flowers inspired me to recreate them in crochet. Some of the flowers that can be found on my blog are a crochet Lilac flower pattern, crochet Lavender pattern, crochet Dahlia pattern, crochet Magnolia, crochet Bleeding Heart, and crochet Dogwood. The pattern for the crochet Tulip can be found in my Etsy shop.
Irises have a very wide range of colors. The color combinations of their top and bottom petals are very unique! You can enjoy some of the pictures I took during our visit to the garden at the end of this post.
By the way, do you know why these Irises are called bearded? The fuzzy part that looks like caterpillar at the base of the lower petals is called a “beard”.
