Crochet Heart Panda Applique

This cute crochet Panda applique pattern continues my heart-shaped appliques series. The face, eye patches, ears, and nose of this crochet Panda applique are made from heart shapes!

Abbreviations:

Ch – chain

DC – double crochet

HDC – half double crochet

Rnd – round

SC- single crochet

Sl St – slip stitch

St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)

TR – treble crochet

Finished Size:

This crochet Panda applique is about 3.5”

Yarn:

• Medium weight #4 yarn. Color – white. I used Red Heart Super Saver.
• Crochet cotton thread size #10, color – black. I used Aunt Lydia’s crochet cotton thread.

Hook and other materials:

• Crochet hook H/8 – 5 mm
• Crochet hook 6/1.8 mm
• Sticky back googly eyes
• Sewing needle
• Black embroidery thread
• Embroidery needle

For this crochet Panda applique you need to make a large heart for the head, and small hearts for the ears, eye patches and a nose.  Once complete, you sew all the pieces to the head.

Face (large heart)

With white yarn and crochet hook H/8 – 5 mm, Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the 4th Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in same 4^th Ch.

Rnd 2.  Ch 3, HDC + DC in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 St (insert hook in Ch stitch under 2 strands, not in Ch-1 space), 3 HDC in next St (Heart point),

HDC in Ch-1 St (insert hook in Ch stitch under 2 strands, not in Ch-1 space), HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, DC + HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Rnd 3. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 3 HDC in next St (Heart point),

HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St  in center. Fasten off.

Nose (small heart)

With black crochet thread and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm, Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1,  DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in same 4^th Ch.

Fasten off.

Eye Patches and Ears (medium heart) – make 4

With black crochet thread and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm, Ch 4;

Rnd 1. Make all of the next stitches into the fourth Ch from hook (the first Ch made) working under both loops – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in same 4^th Ch.

Rnd 2. Ch 3, SC in first St, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in Ch-1 St (insert hook in Ch stitch under 2 strands, not in Ch-1 space), Ch 1, DC in next St (Heart point),

Ch 1, SC in Ch-1 St (insert hook in Ch stitch under 2 strands, not in Ch-1 space), SC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 2 Sts, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Fasten off.

Eyes

You have multiple options to make eyes for your Panda applique. You can use googly eyes, buttons or embroider them. For babies and small children items – embroider the eyes.
