Crochet Poinsettia Flower

I made my poinsettias in the classic Christmas red, as well as the beautiful pink and white variations, giving you plenty of color ideas for your holiday crafting!

Did you know that poinsettias don’t actually have petals? The colorful parts that everyone mistakes for flowers are actually leaves called bracts. The true flowers are the small, yellow buds found right in the center of the plant!

DC – double crochet

Yarn:

• Medium weight #4 yarn, colors – red, yellow, green

Hooks and other materials:

• Crochet hook size 7/4.5 mm
• Sewing needle
• Sewing thread
• Yarn needle
• Three small yellow beads

With crochet hook 7/4.5 mm and yellow color, make a magic ring;

Round 1. Ch 1, 5 SC in the ring, join with Sl St to first SC. Fasten off.

Round 2. Join red color to first St of Round 1, [Ch 3, DC in same St, Ch 2, Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook, EDC in same St as last DC, Ch 3, Sl St in same St, Sl St in next St] 5 times, last repeat – make last Sl St in same St as join. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Green Leaf – make 3

With crochet hook 7/4.5 mm and green color, Ch 7;

Row 1. Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook, SC in next Ch, DC in each of next 2 Chs, HDC in next Ch, SC in last Ch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Finishing

Sew three yellow beads into the yellow center. Using a sewing needle and matching thread, sew the leaves to the back of the poinsettia.
