This easy to make crochet holly applique is perfect for adding a festive touch to a handmade Christmas card. I used crochet thread size #10 for the leaves and red beads for the berries. I prefer to use beads instead of crocheted berries, as shiny beads make this applique more attractive.

make center ridge – center ridge made in surface slip stitch technique:
after you make last Sl St, you have loop on your hook on the right side and working yarn on the wrong side. Work along of the foundation chain with 1 St for each Ch.
Insert your hook from the right side to the wrong side through the Ch of foundation chain, yarn over on the wrong side. Draw the yarn over loop through to the right side. Pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made).
Keep repeating these steps to the end of the foundation chain. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
You can sew three leaves and three beads together to make one piece of the applique or just leave them separately.
