Christmas Holly Heart Ornament Crochet Pattern

Yarn: For the heart:
- Medium weight #4 yarn, two strands held together, color – white
- Medium weight #4 yarn, one strand, color – red
For the holly leaves:
- Crochet cotton thread size #10. Color – green

Instructions:
To make this ornament, we will need to crochet a heart for the base and three holly leaves. Then, we will sew the leaves, beads, and holly button onto the heart.

Heart – base
With two strands of medium weight #4 yarn held together in white and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm, make magic ring;
Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring.
Round 2. Ch 3, (HDC, DC) in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in Ch-1, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, (DC, HDC) in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Round 3. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Total – 37 Sts. Fasten off. Close and secure the magic ring. Weave in the ends.
Round 4 – decorative edge. Use one strand of medium weight #4 yarn in red color and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm. Join yarn into last Sl St of previous Rnd, leaving the tail about 7-8” (18-20 cm) long; Ch 1, Sl St in 2nd Ch of Ch 3 at the beginning of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, *Ch 1, Sl St in next St, repeat from * around to Ch 4 at the end of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in 1st Ch, [Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch] twice, Ch 1, Sl St in same place as you join. Cut off the yarn, leaving 7-8” (18-20 cm) tail. Fasten off.
Holly Leaf – make 3
With crochet cotton thread size #10 and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm, Ch 11 (this is a foundation chain);
Round 1. SC into 2nd Ch from the hook, SC in next Ch, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, DC in next Ch, 2 DC in next, DC in next, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, working under 2 loops – 5 SC in last Ch (top). Working on opposite side of the Ch, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, DC in next Ch, 2 DC in next, DC in next, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, SC in next Ch, 4 SC in last Ch. Side facing you is right side. Do not turn, continue working around.
Round 2. SC in first St of previous round, SC in each of next 3 Sts, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch from the hook, SC in same St, *SC in each of next 2 Sts, HDC in next, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch from hook, HDC in same St* – 5 times, SC in each of next 3 Sts, Ch 2, Sl St in 2nd Ch, SC in same St, SC in each of next 4 Sts, Sl St in next St,
make a Stem – Ch 5, Sl St in 2nd Ch from the hook and in each of next 3 Chs, Sl St in same St as Ch 5 started,
make center ridge – center ridge made in surface slip stitch technique. After you make last Sl St, you have loop on your hook on the right side and working yarn on the wrong side. Work along of the foundation chain with 1 St for each Ch. Insert your hook from the right side to the wrong side through the Ch of foundation chain, yarn over on the wrong side. Draw the yarn over loop through to the right side. Pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made). Keep repeating these steps to the end of foundation chain. Fasten off.
Finishing the ornament
Make a hanging loop by using red and white yarn ends.
Using a sewing needle and matching thread, sew the leaves and red beads onto the heart base.
Sew the holly button onto the heart. As an option, you can use hot glue to attach the leaves and the button to the heart.
