Crochet Smiley Face Christmas Ornaments

Using this crochet pattern for the smiley face ornament, you can create adorable decorations for your Christmas tree. You can also use these smiley faces to make cute holiday garland, gift toppers or stocking stuffers.

Smiley Face Christmas Ornaments – Crochet Pattern

Ch – chain

DC – double crochet

HDC – half double crochet

Rnd – round

SC- single crochet

Sl St – slip stitch

St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)

Finished Size:

The face is about 3-1/4″ (8 cm) without hanging loop.

Yarn:

Worsted medium weight #4 yarn, colors – yellow, brown

Crochet cotton thread size 10, colors –  red, white and black

The face is worked in continuous rounds. Use stitch marker to mark first stitch of each round.

You will need to make a round face and then sew on eyes, smile, etc.

Face

With yellow medium weight yarn and crochet hook 5 mm, make magic ring.

Round 1. Ch 1, 6 SC into the ring. Draw the loop closed. To make it easier to do, first untwist the tail. Then pull the tail to draw the loop tightly closed.

Round 2. 2 SC in each St around. Total – 12 SC. Mark the first SC in this round with a stitch marker. Move the marker with each new round.

Round 3. *2 SC in next St, SC in next St*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round. Total – 18 SC.

Round 4.  *2 SC in next St, SC in next 2 Sts*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round. Total 24 SC.

Round 5.   *2 SC in next St, SC in next 3 Sts*, repeat from * to * to the end of the round. Total 30 SC.

Round 6.  SC in next 2 Sts, *2 SC in next St, SC in next 4 Sts*, repeat from * to * 5 times, 2 SC in next, SC in next 2 Sts. Total 36 SC.

Round 7. Sl St in next 2 Sts. Fasten off.

Join brown color to the next St after last Sl St,

Row 1. Ch 1, Sc in same St and in next 4. Total 5 SC, Ch 1, turn.

Row 2. SC in each St. Total 5 SC.

Fasten off.

Heart – make 2

With red cotton crochet thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 4;

Round 1. Working under both loops, make all of the next stitches in the 4^th Ch from hook (the first Ch made) – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Fasten off.

Smile

With black crochet cotton thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 10;

Row 1. Working in back ridge of the Chain – Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in next Ch, SC in each of next 2 Chs, 2 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 2 Chs, Sl St in next and in last St.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew eyes and smile on the face. Attach thread to make a loop for hanging the ornament on the tree.

Round 1. Working under both loops, make all of the next stitches in the 4^th Ch from hook (the first Ch made) – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St in center.

Fasten off.

Closed Eye – make 2

With black cotton crochet thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 8;

Row 1. Working in back ridge of the Chain – Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook, SC in each of next 2 Chs, 2 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 2 Chs, Sl St in last Ch.

Fasten off.

Smile

With black cotton crochet thread # 10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 10;

Row 1. Working in back ridge of the Chain  – Sl St in 2^nd Ch from hook and in next Ch, SC in each of next 2 Chs, 2 SC in next Ch, SC in each of next 2 Chs, Sl St in next and in last Ch.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew eyes, smile, and hearts on the face. Attach thread to make a loop for hanging the ornament on the tree.

Rolling Eyes Smiley Face

White Sclera – make 2

With white crochet thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, make magic ring;

Rnd 1. Ch 3, 12 DC in ring, join with Sl St in top of Ch 3.

Rnd 2. Ch 1, *SC, 2 SC – repeat around, join with Sl St in top of first SC.

Fasten off.

Black Pupil – make 2

With black crochet thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, make magic ring (see Note 1);

Rnd 1. Ch 1, 9 SC in ring, join with Sl St in top of first SC.

Fasten off. 

Mouth

With black cotton crochet thread #10 and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 8;

Row 1.  Working in back ridge of the Chain – SC in 2^nd Ch from the hook and in each Ch to the end.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew eyes and mouth on the face. Attach thread to make a loop for hanging the ornament on the tree.
