Learn how to make this crochet Spider Web applique! It is very easy to make and you can use it in many ways. The pattern includes instructions for round and asymmetrical spider webs.

I used this Spider Web and Spider applique to make Halloween Spider Garland for my son’s room. Also, I used it to make crochet Haunted House wall art.
You can make a bunch of Spider Webs and spread them on your dinner table, they are small and would be perfect for scrapbooking and for the photo frame or, you can sew them on the kids clothes or blanket!

Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
DC2tog – double crochet two stitches together
EDC – extended double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)

Finished Size:
Round Spider Web Applique
Instructions:
Ch 5, join with Sl St to form a ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 3 (counts as first DC), 15 DC in the ring, join in top of Ch 3 with Sl St. Total – 16 DC.
Rnd 2. Ch 2, DC in same St, Ch 3, *skip one St, DC2tog in next St, Ch 3* – repeat to the end of the Round, Sl St in top of Ch 2 at the beginning of the Round. Total – 8 DC2tog clusters.
Rnd 3. Ch 2, DC in same St, Picot, Ch 5, *DC2tog in next St, Picot, Ch 5* – repeat to the end of the Round, Sl St in top of Ch 2 at the beginning of the Round. Total – 8 DC2tog clusters.
Fasten off.
How to make Picot
Ch 3, Sl St into the top of last St (see Instructions below).
When instructed to work into the top of a stitch, insert hook under two loops highlighted in green in direction of the arrow.
Asymmetrical Spider Web Applique
Instructions:
Ch 5, join with Sl St to form a ring.
Rnd 1. Ch 4 (counts as DC and Ch 1), *DC into the ring, Ch 1* – repeat 7 times, **HDC, Ch 1** – repeat 4 times, join with Sl St into third Ch of Ch 4 at the beginning of the Round. Total – 12 Sts.
Rnd 2. Ch 6 (counts as DC and Ch 3), DC in next St, Ch 3, *EDC in next St, Ch 3* – repeat 3 times, **DC in next St, Ch 3** – repeat 2 times, ***HDC in next St, Ch 2*** – repeat 4 times, HDC in next St, Ch 3, join with Sl St in third Ch of Ch 6 at the beginning of the Round. Total – 12 Sts.
Rnd 3. Ch 7 (counts as DC and Ch 4), DC in next St, Picot, Ch 4, *EDC in next St, Picot, Ch 4* – repeat 3 times, **DC in next St, Picot, Ch 4** – repeat 2 times, **HDC in next St, Picot, Ch 3** – repeat 5 times, join with Sl St in third Ch of Ch 7 at the beginning of the Round, Picot. Total – 12 Sts.
Fasten off.
How to make an Extended Double Crochet (EDC)
The extended double crochet stitch is a taller variation of standard double crochet.
1.Yarn over. Insert the hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the stitch. There are now 3 loops on the hook.
2. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the first loop on the hook. There are now 3 loops on the hook.
3. Yarn over and draw the yarn through 2 loops on the hook. There are now 2 loops on the hook.
4. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 remaining loops on the hook.
Spider Web Applique must be blocked and starched to achieve the desired effect.
Soak the appliqués with commercial starch or fabric stiffener. Gently squeeze out any excess liquid.
Place them on the pinning board.
For a pinning board, you can use a corkboard, a sheet of Styrofoam, or a piece of pressed cardboard.
Cover it with plastic wrap. Using rustproof pins, pin each Picot to shape.
Allow to dry completely before removing your appliqués.
