This crochet square block is the second square I designed for the Moogly Crochet Along. My block design is named “The Atom Square” by my husband, a chemist. It reminded him of an atom.
Just like my previous square design, for this block I used cream and aqua colors. You can find the pattern for my previous design in this post: Ocean Foam Crochet Square.

Besides a blanket, this crochet block pattern is also perfect for making a pillow, cushion, table runner, or bag. The pattern is designed to start in the center and work in rounds.

Notes:
1. Crochet over your yarn ends – by crocheting over them as you go, you’ll reduce the number of ends to weave in.
2. Rounds 4, 8 and 12 instruct you to crochet in space. In these rounds, count the posts instead of the tops of the stitches. To crochet in space, insert the hook between the indicated posts instead of at the top of the stitches, except SC stitches. In round 12, you should treat the top of the SC as space.
Special Stitches:
Bobble
- YO, insert hook in specified stitch, YO, draw the yarn through the stitch, YO and draw the yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook. There are 2 loops on the hook.
- [YO, insert hook in same stitch, YO, draw the yarn through the stitch, YO and draw the yarn through the first 2 loops on the hook] 3 times. There are now 5 loops on the hook.
- YO and draw the yarn through all 5 loops on the hook.
- Ch 1 to complete the stitch.
Standing DC
- Make a slip knot.
- YO, holding loop on hook, insert hook in specified stitch (space).
- YO and pull up a loop (you have 3 loops on hook).
- [YO and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.
