Happy Crocheting!
I was expecting a ‘granny square’ – where are the granny stitches that make up a granny square?? You show a very pretty square motif but I do not see even one “granny stitch” ! Just because it is a square doesn’t mean it’s a ‘granny square’. Square motif with hundreds of stitch designs have been around for ages; they are square motifs with various names but are not granny squares
Yes, a traditional granny square is a square which uses granny clusters. However, now the terminology “granny square” applies to almost any square. I have a book “99 Granny Squares” by Leisure Arts. It has 99 different square designs and a lot of them are not traditional granny squares, but the publisher still calls them granny squares.
These are granny squares, granny square is not indicative of any certain stitch. Granny squares are from the Victorian days with “grandmas” would use scraps of yard to make squares they later would sew together to make blankets, any small square that is crocheted can be referred to as a granny square.
Yarn, not yard! Forgive my typo
GoldenLucy,
You can call it whatever you like, I’ll call it AWESOME. Who invented the “Granny Square” pattern with the clusters anyway? I got “in trouble” for writing out /typing it out in some crochet club I was in for someone who asked how to do it. It’s SIMPLE-esp. if I remembered it.
LOVE YOUR WORK. Thanks for sharing your craft.
Susie
Thank you! I am glad to hear that you like my work!
Hello.
Can this be made with a 1000% cotton such as Sugar& Cream?
I want to make as a dish cloth . Do you think it will come out very
Small?
Thank you.
You can make this square bigger by adding 1 or 2 rounds of DC after round 7.
Hi I was wanting to say that your Crochet pattern it’s amazing. I was wanting to ask you. Could I use these granny square hears to make a purse bag for my sister. But how many squares would I need to make to make a purse? Thanks Mrs Portia Roberson
Yes, you can use these squares to make a bag. I can’t tell you how many squares you need as the number of squares will depend on the size of your bag. One square is about 6-1/2” x 6-1/2”.
Is it ok to use this pattern to make a blanket that I will sell?
Yes, you can sell finished items made from my patterns. Thank you for asking!
Row 4 and Row 5 are tricky. I didn’t do it quite right so the whole square looks off.
Maybe a zoomed in view of how to start and end these rows would help.
Please send me email at [email protected]. I will be glad to help.
Round 6 of Heart Granny Square does not work. Only 10 spaces are involved. What about the other spaces?
Round 6 is correct. Please send me an email at [email protected] and I will try to help you.
Round 6 is still not correct. The video is, but not these written instructions. The pattern repeat coming back up the second side is off.
Round 6 is correct. The video is repeating the pattern. Could you please clarify the issue you are having with rnd 6? You can send me an email at [email protected]
I had issues with round 6 as well, but finally realized that where it says 3 times, it means complete the stitch pattern between [ ] 3 times. If you do that this works out. Hopefully this will help with confusion.
Hello
I purchased the Heart Granny Square pattern. Do you have a video available for this pattern?
I am just not catching on to this.
Thank you 😊
Hi Colleen, Yes, there is a video tutorial available. You can find it at the end of the post after the instructions.
I would love to see a completed blanket (baby size?) for color combo ideas! That is the hardest part for me!
I’m stuck on round 6. The way the round is written you don’t get back to the beginning. Something is missing.
Please send me a message at [email protected]. If possible, attach a picture of your square.
Gracias por compartir tu hermoso trabajo! Envío un abrazo desde Montevideo, Uruguay, América del Sur

I absolutely love this pattern. I made one on impulse ( I was searching how to make a heart because I am teaching my 8 yr. old granddaughter to crochet, and I bookmarked and made a square later.
Now I have to make enough for a blanket.
I am happy to hear that you like this pattern! Thank you!
Hello! I’m wanting to make a crochet bag for my friend using this pattern, and was wondering if in the future I decide to make more bags to sell would it be possible to use this pattern? I would of course give pattern credit to you and share the website as well! Thank you!
Yes, you can sell finished items made from my patterns. Thank you for asking.
I am making these granny heart squares and adding a little prayer attached, so someone can put it in there pocket and refer to it as needed, for comfort.
You are a very kind person! Thank you for using my heart square pattern!
