Standing DC
- Make a slip knot.
- YO, holding loop on hook, insert hook in specified stitch (space).

Square block
With Color A andJ/10 (6 mm) crochet hook, Ch 5, join with Sl St to form a ring.
Round 1. Ch 5 (counts as first DC and Ch-2 sp, now and throughout), [3 DC in ring, Ch 2] 3 times, 2 DC in ring, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5 in the beginning. Total – 12 DC and 4 Ch-2 sps.
Round 2. Sl St in first Ch of Ch 2, Ch 5, 2 DC in Ch-2 sp, DC in each of next 3 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in next Ch-2 sp, DC in each of next 3 Sts] 3 times, DC in sp before Ch 5, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5. Total – 28 DC and 4 Ch-2 sps.
Round 3. Sl St in first Ch of Ch 2, Ch 5, 2 DC in Ch-2 sp, DC in each of next 7 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in next Ch-2 sp, DC in each of next 7 Sts] 3 times, DC in sp before Ch 5, join with Sl St to 3rd Ch of Ch 5. Total – 44 DC and 4 Ch-2 sps.

Round 9. Join Color A with standing DC in any Ch-2 sp, (DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in same sp, DC in each of next 29 Sts, [(2 DC, Ch 2, 2 DC) in Ch-2 sp, DC in each of next 29 Sts] 3 times, join with Sl St to first DC. Total – 132 DC and 4 Ch-2 sps. Cut yarn and fasten off. Weave in the ends.
Cherry – make 3
With Color B and 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook, make magic ring;
Round 1. Ch 2 (doesn’t count as a St), 9 HDC in ring. Draw the loop closed. To make it easier to do, first untwist the tail. Then pull the tail to draw the loop tightly closed. Join with Sl St in top of first HDC. Total – 9 HDC.
Round 2. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a St), 2 SC in same St and in each St around, join with Sl St in top of first SC. Total – 18 SC. Fasten off.
Leaf
With Color C and 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook, Ch 23;
Round 1. Sl St in 2nd Ch from hook, *SC in each of next 2 Chs, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, DC in each of next 3 Chs, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, Sl St in each of next 2 Chs, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, DC in each of next 3 Chs, HDC in each of next 2 Chs, SC in each of next 2 Chs*, 3 SC in next (last) Ch;
continue working on opposite side of Ch – repeat from * to *, Sl St in next Ch. Fasten off.
Stems
Using Color C and 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook, Ch 12, Sl St to the center of double leaf, Ch 12. Fasten off. This will create two stems.
For the third stem, Ch 12, Sl St to the center of double leaf. Fasten off.
Trim the ends, leaving them approximately 0.25” (0.6 cm) long.
Finishing
Block the square. Block cherries and leaves as necessary. Sew the cherry applique onto the square. Using Color A yarn, embroider sparkles on the cherries.
