I’ve made my leaves using crochet thread size 10 and their size is about 1.5“ long with a stem. You are welcome to experiment with different yarn and hook sizes to achieve bigger leaves.
I used these crochet leaves to create these crochet wall arts: Fall Wall Art, crochet Easter Tree, and Autumn Tree and Wind.

Rnd 1. SC into 2nd Ch from the hook, HDC into next Ch, DC into each of next 3 Chs, HDC into each of next 2 Chs, working under 2 loops – 5 SC into last Ch (top).
Continue working on the opposite side of the Ch – HDC into each of next 2 Chs, DC into each of next 3 Chs, HDC into next Ch, 4 SC into last Ch (bottom).
Side facing you is right side. Do not join the round.
Rnd 2. SC into each of next 9 Sts, (SC+HDC+SC)- into next top St, SC into each of next 9 Sts, Sl St into each of next 2 Sts.
For the Leaf without Stem – make a center ridge.
Center ridge made in surface slip stitch technique. After you make the last Sl St, you have a loop on your hook on the right side and working yarn on the wrong side.
Work along the foundation chain with 1 St for each Ch.
Insert your hook from the right side to the wrong side through the Ch of the foundation chain, yarn over on the wrong side.
Draw the yarn over loop through to the right side. Pull the yarn over through the loop on your hook (surface slip stitch made).
Keep repeating these steps to the end of the foundation chain.
Fasten off.
For the Leaf with Stem – after Round 2 make a Stem:
Ch 5, Sl St into 2nd Ch from the hook and into each of next 3 Chs, Sl St into same St where Ch 5 was started.
Make center ridge (see Instructions for center ridge above).
