Crochet Puff Stitch Square Block

This beautiful crochet puff stitch square block pattern is perfect for making a blanket, pillow, cushion, or bag. Medium weight #4 yarn in 3 colors of choice (Color A, Color B, Color C). I used Red Heart Super Saver, medium weight #4 yarn

Puff Stitch (Puff)

1. [YO, insert hook in the specified stitch, YO and pull up a loop] 3 times in the same stitch – you should have 7 loops on your hook.
2. YO and draw through all 7 loops on hook.

With Color A, Ch 5, join with Sl St to form a ring;

Round 1. Pull up a 1/2” loop, [Puff in ring, Ch 1] 8 times; join with Sl St to top of first Puff. Cut yarn and fasten off. (8 Puffs, 8 Ch-1 sps)

Round 2. Join Color B with Sl St in any Ch-1 sp, Ch 1, [Puff, Ch 2] twice in same sp and in each of next sp around, join with Sl St to top of first Puff. Cut yarn and fasten off. (16 Puff Sts, 16 Ch-2 sps)

Round 3. Join Color A with Sl St in any Ch-2 sp, Ch 1, (Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in same sp, Ch 2, Puff in next sp, Ch 2, *(Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in next sp, Ch 2, Puff in next sp, Ch 2; repeat from * around, join with Sl St to top of first Puff. Cut yarn and fasten off. (24 Puff Sts, 24 Ch-2 sps)

Round 4. Join Color B with Sl St in any Ch-2 sp, Ch 1, (Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in same sp, Ch 1, 2 HDC in each of next 5 sps, Ch 1, *(Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in next sp, Ch 1, 2 HDC in each of next 5 sps, Ch 1; repeat from * around, join with Sl St to top of first Puff. Cut yarn and fasten off. (8 Puff Sts, 40 HDC, 4 Ch-2 corner sps)

Round 5. Join Color C with Sl St in any Ch-2 corner sp, Ch 1, (Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in same sp, Ch 1, 2 HDC in sp before first HDC of previous round, [skip 2 Sts, 2 HDC in next sp] 5 times, Ch 1; *(Puff, Ch 2, Puff) in next Ch-2 corner sp, Ch 1, 2 HDC in sp before next HDC, [skip 2 Sts, 2 HDC in next sp] 5 times, Ch 1; repeat from * around, join with Sl St to top of first Puff. Cut yarn and fasten off. (8 Puff Sts, 48 HDC, 4 Ch-2 corner sps)

Round 6.
