My popular crochet Unicorn, which I designed earlier, is getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day! This St. Patrick’s Day crochet Unicorn applique would be perfect for those who celebrate this holiday and love this mystical creature.

St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Unicorn Applique – Free Crochet Pattern

Ch – chain
DC – double crochet
HDC – half double crochet
Rnd – round
SC- single crochet
Sl St – slip stitch
St (Sts) – stitch (stitches)
TR – treble crochet
Materials:
For the face: medium weight yarn, color – white
For the horn: medium weight yarn, color – green
For the muzzle: cotton light weight yarn Patons Grace, color – ginger
For the eyes: cotton light weight yarn Patons Grace, color – black (you can use black embroidery floss instead)
For the shamrocks: cotton crochet thread size 10, color – green, dark green
Crochet hook size E/4 – 3.5 mm
Crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm
Beads – optional

Finished size:
This St Patrick’s Day Unicorn applique is about 5-1/2” (14 cm).
Instructions:
- Make a Face
With white yarn and hook size H/8 (5 mm) – Ch 4;
Rnd 1. Working under both loops, make all of the next stitches into the 4th Ch from hook (the first Ch made) – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC, Ch 3, Sl St.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, in top of first St of previous Row make HDC+DC, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, DC into each of next 3 Sts, HDC into next St (this is Ch1 stitch), (DC+TR+DC) in next St (Heart point), HDC into Ch 1 stitch, DC into each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, DC and HDC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, SC in top of first St of previous round, 2 SC in next St; making first Ear – Ch 6, SC in 2nd Ch from hook, SC in next Ch, HDC in each of next 3 Chs; SC in next St of the Rnd 2, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, then SC in each of the next 6 Sts, (DC+TR+DC) in next St (Heart point), SC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 3 Sts, SC in next St; making second Ear – Ch 6, SC in 2nd Ch from hook, SC in next Ch, HDC in each of next 3 Chs; 2 SC in next St, SC in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Make a Horn
With green yarn and hook size H/8 – 5 mm:
Ch 10, SC in 2nd Ch from hook, SC in next Ch, HDC in each of next 3 Chs, DC in each of next 4 Chs.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Make a Muzzle
With green cotton light weight yarn and hook size E/4 – 3.5 mm:
Ch 6, DC in 4th Ch from hook, DC in next Ch, 6 DC in next Ch, now working on opposite side of Ch- DC in next Ch, 4 DC in next (last Ch), join with Sl St.
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Make crochet Shamrocks.
- Sew Horn, Muzzle and Shamrocks on the Unicorn’s face.
- With black yarn (or embroidery floss) embroider the eyes, with green yarn (or embroidery floss) embroider the ears.
