Crochet Fall Ornaments

These Fall-mood crocheted ornaments will make a charming handmade home decoration! If you like to decorate your home for the season, you may enjoy this beautiful project.

I’ve created two different designs – one is a Mushroom ornament and another is a Fox ornament. For the Mushroom and Fox appliques I’ve used my previously designed patterns.

These Fall ornaments are embellished with different Fall-themed craft buttons. I love craft buttons and I used them in many of my crochet designs.

This crochet Fall ornament is about 5-1/4” in diameter without a hanging loop

Notes:

To make this crochet Fall ornament, you will need to crochet the ornament base, Fox or Mushroom applique and sew the applique onto the base. Then embellish the ornament with Fall-themed craft buttons of your choice.

Buttons. I used different Fall – themed craft buttons: leaves, sunflowers, a ladybug and hedgehog. You can use any buttons of your choice.  I like to buy buttons on the Etsy website, some of my favorites can be found HERE.

Ornament Base

Yarn:

Knit Picks Dishie medium weight #4 cotton yarn. Colors: for the Fox ornament – Black (A), for the Mushroom ornament – Coffee (B), for the border – Clementine (C)

Hook and other materials:

• Crochet hook G/4 mm

• Yarn needle

Instructions:

Note: Beginning Ch 3 counts as a St.

With color A or B, make magic ring;

Rnd 1. Ch 3, 11 DC in ring, Sl St in top of Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd to join. Total – 12 DC.

Rnd 2. Ch 3, DC in same St, 2 DC in each St around, Sl St in top of Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd to join. Total – 24 DC.

Rnd 3. Ch 3, DC in same St, DC in next St, *2 DC in next St, DC in next St, repeat from * around, Sl St in top of Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd to join. Total – 36 DC.

Rnd 4. Ch 3, DC in same St, DC in next 2 Sts, *2 DC in next St, DC in next 2 Sts, repeat from * around, Sl St in top of Ch 3 at beginning of the Rnd to join. Total – 48 DC.

Rnd 5. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as a St), 2 SC in same St, SC in next 11 Sts, *2 SC in next, SC in next 11 Sts, repeat from * around, Sl St in top of first SC to join. Total – 52 Sts. Fasten off.

Rnd 6. Join color C to first St of previous Rnd, Ch 1, *skip 1, 5 DC in next St, skip 1, Sl St in next, repeat from * around, last Sl St make into same St where you joined. Total – 13 shells. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends except two in different colors to make a hanging loop. Block your ornament base as necessary.

Mushroom Applique

Yarn:

• Knit Picks Curio cotton thread #3. Colors: Serrano (A), Natural (B).

Hook and other materials:

• Steel crochet hook 1/2.75 mm
• 6 mm white buttons
• Sewing needle
• Matching sewing thread

Fox Applique

Yarn:

• Knit Picks Curio cotton thread #3. Colors: Copper (A), White (B).

Hook and other materials:

• Steel crochet hook 1/2.75 mm
• 6 mm black buttons
• Sewing needle
• Matching sewing thread

Making the ornament

Using saved yarn ends, make a hanging loop.

With a sewing needle and matching sewing threads, sew on applique and buttons on the ornament base.
