This hydrangea ornament is about 4.5” (11 cm) without a hanging loop.
Yarn: For the heart:
- Medium weight #4 yarn, two strands held together. Color – white (I used Red Heart Super Saver)
For the hydrangea flowers:
- Crochet cotton thread size #10. I used Aunt Lydia’s crochet cotton thread #10. Colors – delft blue (Color A), myrtle green (Color B)
Hooks and other materials:
- Crochet hook size J-10/6 mm
- Crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm
- Sewing needle
- Sewing thread
- Yarn needle
- Bee craft button
- Hot glue gun

Instructions:
To make this ornament, we will need to crochet a heart for the base, hydrangea flowers and leaves. Then, we will attach the flowers, leaves, and a bee button to the heart base by either sewing or using a hot glue gun.

Heart
With two strands of medium weight #4 yarn held together in white and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm, make magic ring;
Rnd 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring. Tighten the magic ring.
Rnd 2. Ch 3, (HDC, DC) in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in Ch-1, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, (DC, HDC) in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Rnd 3. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Drop one strand of the yarn and cut it off leaving tail for weaving in.
Rnd 4. Decorative edge. Continue working with remaining one strand using the same hook: Ch 1, Sl St in 2nd Ch of Ch 3 at the beginning of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, *Ch 1, Sl St in next St, repeat from * around to Ch 4 at the end of previous Rnd, Ch 1, Sl St in 1st Ch, [Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch] twice, Ch 1, Sl St into last Sl St of previous round. Fasten off.
Secure the magic ring, weave in all ends.
Cut off a piece of yarn about 15”-17” long and make a hanging loop.
Hydrangea flower – make 11
Use crochet thread size 10 in color A and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm. Instructions for the flower are available HERE, and a video tutorial is available HERE.
Leaf – make 3
With crochet thread size 10 in color B and crochet hook size 6/1.8 mm, Ch 8,
Round 1. SC in 2nd chain from hook,HDC in next, 2 DC in next, 2 EDC in next, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in last, Ch 2, SC in same, rotate your work and continue working on opposite side of chain – HDC in each of next 2, DC in each of next 2, HDC in next, SC in next, join with Sl St to first SC.
Round 2. Ch 1, SC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 SC in each of next 2, SC in each of next 3, SC in Ch-2 space, Ch 2, SC in same space, SC in each of next 7 Sts, 2 SC in last St, join with Sl St to first SC.
Round 3. *Ch 1, Sl St in next St* – repeat to Ch-2 space, Ch 1, (SC, Ch 1, SC) in Ch-2 space, *Ch 1, Sl St in next St* – repeat to the end of the round. Fasten off.
Assembly
Shape and block the leaves and flowers as necessary.
You can attach leaves and flowers by either sewing or using a hot glue gun.
First, attach the leaves. Next, attach the flowers. Finally, sew on the bee button.
