For this Halloween ornament, we will crochet a heart base and a spider web. Then, we will sew the spider web and a spider button onto the heart.
Heart
With orange color two strands of medium weight #4 yarn held together and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm, make magic ring;
Round 1. Ch 3, make all of the next stitches into the ring – 3 DC, 3 HDC, Ch 1, DC (Heart point), Ch 1, 3 HDC, 3 DC; Ch 3, Sl St in ring.
Round 2. Ch 3, (HDC, DC) in first St, 3 TR in next St, 2 DC in next St, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, HDC in Ch-1 stitch, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in Ch-1 stitch, HDC in each of next 3 Sts, 2 DC in next St, 3 TR in next St, (DC, HDC) in next St, Ch 3, Sl St in center.
Round 3. Ch 3, HDC in first St, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, (HDC, DC, HDC) in next St (Heart point), HDC in each of the next 6 Sts, 2 HDC in each of next 5 Sts, HDC in next St, Ch 4, Sl St in center. Cut off leaving about 6”- 8” yarn ends to make a hanging loop.
Round 4 – decorative edge. Use one strand of medium weight #4 yarn inblack color and crochet hook size J-10/6 mm. Join yarn into last Sl St of previous round, Ch 1, Sl St in 2nd Ch of Ch 3 at the beginning of previous round, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, *Ch 1, Sl St in next St, repeat from * around to Ch 3 at the end of previous round, Ch 1, Sl St in 1st Ch, Ch 1, Sl St in next Ch, Ch 1, Sl St into same place where you joined. Fasten off. Secure the magic ring and weave in the beginning ends.
Spider Web
With black crochet thread size #10 and crochet hook 6/1.8 mm,
Row 1. Ch 4 (count as Ch 1 and Ch 3 as first DC), 6 DC in 4th chain from hook. Total – 7 DC. Turn.
Row 2. Ch 5 (count as Ch 3 as first DC and Ch 2), DC in next St, [Ch 2, DC in next St] – repeat to the end of the row, working last DC in top of Ch 4 at the beginning of previous row. Total – 7 DC and 6 spaces. Turn.
Row 3. Ch 8 (count as Ch 4 as first TR and Ch 4), TR in next St, [Ch 4, TR in next St] – repeat to the end of the row, working last TR in 3rd Ch of Ch 5 at the beginning of previous row. Total – 7 TR and 6 spaces. Turn.
Row 4. Ch 10 (count as Ch 4 as first TR and Ch 6), TR in next St, [Ch 6, TR in next St] – repeat to the end of the row, working last TR in 4rd Ch of Ch 8 at the beginning of previous row. Total – 7 TR and 6 spaces. Turn.
Row 5. Ch 12 (count as Ch 4 for the first TR and Ch 8), TR in next St, [Ch 8, TR in next St] – repeat to the end of the row, working last TR in 4rd Ch of Ch 10 at the beginning of previous row. Total – 7 TR and 6 spaces. Fasten off.
Block the web as necessary.
Finishing
With a sewing needle and matching sewing threads, sew the web and spider button onto the heart.
Make a hanging loop by using two saved yarn ends.
